Celebrating The Midnight Hour
Yoko Miwa and vocalist Mikayla Shirley first began performing together during the late-night Midnight Sessions at The Mad Monkfish in Cambridge, Massachusetts. What began as intimate late-night duo performances grew into a remarkable musical collaboration—and ultimately became The Midnight Hour, their debut album together.
The album captures the atmosphere and spirit of those performances, with Miwa and Shirley exploring an eclectic collection of jazz standards, Broadway songs, Brazilian music, classic pop, and contemporary songwriting. Rather than being defined by genre, the music is united by a shared belief in the power of a great song.
Recorded at Boston’s renowned Q Division Studios, The Midnight Hour captures the intimate dialogue between Shirley’s expressive vocals and Miwa’s distinctive piano playing, preserving the spontaneity, warmth, and emotional honesty that have made their live performances so compelling.
