Yoko played a sold-out show last week at the famed Regattabar. Here are her thoughts on the show:

“The Regattabar show was not only sold out but the room was at capacity, filled with a mix of loyal fans and new ones I’d never seen before. There are some fans who have come to see my shows at the Regattabar and at Scullers since 2009. The resounding thing i keep hearing from them is that our shows just keep getting better every time they see us. I’d like to think that’s true but I can honestly say it seems to me the audiences keep getting better every show. We could feel the love from them in just the first few notes we played. They were with us every step of the way and as soon as we played the final note they were immediately on their feet for a standing ovation. What an amazing audience! Their heartfelt enthusiasm inspired us to play even better and I thank them from the bottom of my heart! Thanks to the Regattabar for having us. We’re looking forward to the next show there.”

Dave Dubinsky is a fan of Yoko, and he had this to say:

“Another wonderful evening of jazz; tonight, at the Regattabar, Harvard (“Hah-vid”) Square, Cambridge. The Yoko Miwa Trio continues to exude lush harmonic accompaniments and interesting rhythmic treatments, supporting every melodic idea with intuitive ease. Yoko’s improvisational gifts represent a combination of highly skilled chops, warmth and tenderness of touch, commanding power and a seemingly endless palette of ideas. Will Slater provided ever-confident, unyielding linear support and interesting solo work, while Scott Goulding never disappointed, laying it down perfectly, and soloing reminiscent of Mel Lewis’ tasty, spacial offerings. Tickets were just $20! Unbelievable price of admission for a performance by a truly world-class artist. Don’t miss the next opportunity to catch a “live” performance by the Yoko Miwa Trio!!!”

Finally, there was this moving message from an anonymous audience member:

“I am on home leave from Afghanistan (not a soldier!)…I caught your show at the Regatta Bar last night and it suddenly occurred to me there is real beauty in the world. Thank you for reminding me.”
