Jazz pianist, organist, composer and bandleader Carla Bley turns 80 on May 11. Bley has forged a very individual identity for herself throughout her 50+ years as a musician. Here’s a recent New York Times article about her career and current activities.

Truly one of the most original and iconoclastic of American musicians of her or any generation. I first heard her on the seminal “Musique Mechanique” from the late 70s.
