Digging into the ECM catalog
ECM recently put much of its catalog online for the first time. Here at YokoMiwa.com, we’ve been digging into those archives and wanted to recommend a few albums. If you’ve got a favorite, let us know in the comments.
Jan Garbarek: Witchi-Tai-To
This 1974 classic by Jan Garbarek is a must-hear. It features Bobo Stenson’s quartet, an incredibly sympathetic setting for Garbarek’s soaring sound.
Eberhard Weber: The Colors Of Chloe
The sound of Eberhard Weber’s bass is an essential part of the sound of ECM. Warm and inviting, this album will reward repeated exploration.
Terje Rypdal: Terje Rypdal/Miroslav Vitous/Jack DeJohnette
The title says it all. Those three names are exciting alone, and together they created one of the most electrifying albums in the ECM catalog.
Carla Bley: Rarum XV
Bley is one of the few jazz writers who isn’t afraid to use humor. This selection of her ECM work is a great introduction.
